On Monday,  Jan. 25, there was a meeting of the Wildwood Planning and Zoning Commission. One of the items on the agenda was once again consideration of  whether or not Lafayette will get an electronic sign out front like the other Rockwood high schools.  The meeting was a regular session that was a week later into the month due to Martin Luther King Jr Day.

Under its current ordinances, the city of Wildwood does not allow any electronic signs in the city, which has become a problem for Lafayette. The school has waited for about two years for a variance that would allow the sign to be installed.

“The committee recommended by a vote of 4-2 against allowing Lafayette to have an electronic reader board,” Joe Vujnich, director of planning and parks, said.

However, at that meeting, the commission only had six of the eight voting members in attendance, so there is still a chance for Lafayette to to win approval.

“The meeting wasn’t postponed, we just did not have enough voters to vote for the final decision,” Vujnich said.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. Vujnich said at that meeting a final vote will be taken on the issue.
