Trivia Troubles: Sophomore class struggles to gain participants for Trivia Night

As many know, every year, the sophomore class holds Trivia Night.

Trivia Night gives students the opportunity to gather a group of their friends and compete in a trivia competition. Parents also are known to participate in this.

As of this year, however, sophomore students and teachers have been having a harder time than usual trying to get people to sign up for tables.

Assistant Principal Colleen Fields said, “There is never a clear answer for why some years have larger interest than others.  I believe that people in our community and our student body have very busy schedules, and sometimes that can get in the way of being available to participate.”

Now that assistant principals are following their respective classes as they progress through high school, they are all learning about these activities along with the students. Before, the principals would be in charge of one fundraiser since they were only principals for a specific grade. Now, since they progress with the class, they have to learn how to run that fundraiser instead of the old one they are used to.

There are also parents on the committee who have run the event in the past; Assistant Principals Mandy Lewis and Kirti Mehrohtra have been giving advice to Fields on how to tap into clubs and other student groups to get greater participation.

“It’s a learning curve,” Fields said. “But I am confident in our LHS community to help us have a very successful Trivia Night.”

Trivia Night will be taking place Saturday, January 30. The doors will open at 6 p.m. The first round of trivia with start promptly at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 per adult or $10 for students and staff . It’s $160 for a table of eight. Any donations for the Silent Auction are being accepted, and all proceeds will support the Class of 2018’s Senior Activities.
