Sophmore Halah Almuttan started her buisness, Halah’s Sweet Treats during fall this year. Other than selling a variety of self-made goods such as cinamon rolls, bunt cakes and churros, she also takes custom orders for treats like cakes, chocolate covered strawberries and cupcakes.

This year, sophomore Halah Almuttan followed her childhood dream by opening her own baking business, Halah’s Sweet Treats.

“I’ve been baking my entire life. I used to watch the Kids Baking Championship all the time,” she said.

As a kid, Almuttan said she often looked up to her mother as an inspiration. In fact, her mother was the one who got her baking in the first place.

“She’d always have me help her out, she’s been my inspiration for baking and she’s my number one,” Almuttan said.

With help from her mother, she learned and practiced baking on her own until it eventually became her favorite hobby. Almuttan said she is very confident in her skills.

“Anything you could think of I [can bake],” she said.

Almuttan runs the business out of her own home and promotes her business on her Instagram and Snapchat accounts, posting seasonal desserts like chocolate-covered strawberries for Valentine’s Day and football-themed cakes for the Super Bowl.

Almuttan said she especially enjoys baking cookies and cupcakes.

“I love making cookies but decorating, customize-wise, I love to do strawberries, pretzels [and] cake pops. Cupcakes are really fun [too], that’s something you can customize and it’s also super fun to bake,” Almuttan said.

Currently, Halah’s Sweet Treats offers delivery, catering and customization. Almuttan sells a variety of  baked goods including gooey butter cake, brownies, cookies, muffins, banana bread and more.

Almuttan said she is hoping to expand her business in the future and continue to bake treats.

“Who doesn’t love a sweet treat?” Almuttan said.
