Currently serving as the Dean of Mathematics and Sciences at St. Charles Community College, Mara Vorachek-Warren was appointed to fill the position of Director for the Rockwood BOE May 30. She will be sworn into the position June 6.

Lafayette to welcome two new head coaches for 2024-2025 school year
For the first time since the Pandemic, a new mural was painted by the AP Art and Design underclassman. The mural was requested by science teacher Craig Wideman, and painted by art teacher Lauren Sakowski, junior Anna Matheus, and sophomore Michelle Chen.

Early on Monday morning, multiple regions of the school had air conditioning and power outages, causing some classes to move periodically for the 1st Hour final block.

As part of the Lafayette community, local youth soccer club Rockwood United SC took part in the annual Homecoming Parade. The club was created by former LHS soccer coaches, Saverio Traversa and Craig Wideman, to provide better quality soccer coaching. We want to make sure that [soccer] is taught right, because when learned correctly its the best sport in the world, Wideman said.

Protests are being held at colleges across the United States. There have been protests at Washington University in St. Louis and Columbia University, both colleges seniors from the Class of 2024 will be attending.

Officially releasing on April 16, Starbucks came out with their new Spicy Lemonade Refreshers: Spicy Dragonfruit (left), Spicy Strawberry (middle) and Spicy Pineapple (right). After finishing their tests in history teacher Steve Klawiters class, students can participate in an optional trivia section. While Klawiter usually doesnt offer rewards for the highest score on the trivia section, it offers a way for students to decompress after unit tests.

Freshman Emi Limon competes in the 2022 World Kickboxing and Karate Union Championship in Wales. Even though Limon has only been doing karate for three years, he won four medals at the October competition— a gold medals in Weapons with Music and Korean Forms, a silver medal in Hardstyle Forms and a bronze medal in Weapons with no Music.

Sophomore Mary Kirtley holds her Dressember Foundation button. The buttons are passed down to the new STL Spark executive board members each year and they are encouraged to place them on their backpacks to help raise awareness about human trafficking. My sister, [Class of 2020 alumni] Grace Kirtley, started STL Spark when she was in high school and she would have people carry it on after she graduated, Mary said. Last year I got invited to join the board again with my sister, senior Patty Kirtley, and so weve been working on carrying her legacy a bit. Its become somewhat of a family project.
