Lafayette community comes together for Black Lives Matter peaceful protest

On June 13, 2020 many members of the Lafayette community came together to participate in a peaceful protest in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Class of 2020 graduates Malayka Walton and Shannon Worley, who were the leaders in the planning of the event, were pleasantly surprised with the large turnout.

On June 13, 2020, a peaceful protest in support of the Black Lives Matter movement took place in Wildwood. The event began in the Lafayette parking lot and participants marched to St. Louis County Police: City of Wildwood Precinct Station located in Town Center.

The event was planned and organized by LHS graduates Malayka Walton and Shannon Worley, with help from Katie Barefield, Nick Berry, Sydney Berry, Grace Kirtley and Teni Toriola.

At 11 a.m., the protest began with an opening speech from Nick Berry, which was followed by a Privilege Walk. Additionally, Wildwood Councilman Kevin Dillard gave a speech, Dillard was the only one out of four speakers that was not part of the graduating Class of 2020. The last two speeches were delivered by Marsean Fisher and Malayka Walton and the march immediately followed.
