Every student in the school has it. A school email account is assigned to each students at the beginning of their learning careers. These accounts are through Google, which gives students not only access to Gmail, but also the other programs such as Docs, Drive, etc.

While these programs are open to all Google users with accounts, Google Classroom is provided only to educators and students. That being said, a student’s Rockwood-Google account is employed continually throughout his or her years in school. Papers, projects, lessons and links to helpful study websites can be found in these accounts. As the technology of the 21st Century advances, more and more people and schools are turning to technology. Many projects are turned in online and are sometimes not presented to the teacher in a hard-copy form. Because of this, most students store their entire high school career’s worth of assignments on their Drive, rather in a plethora of binders.

It is not uncommon for college students to refer to some of their high school notes or assignments for help. Since a large amount of these things are located on the Drive, are they accessible? What happens to students’ Google accounts after they graduate? Are they still able to access them once they no longer attend the school?

Well, according to the Rockwood Technology Department, students have two weeks after graduation to use their accounts. After that, the Gmail accounts are terminated, and students will no longer be able to access or use the email or the services. With those two weeks, students can transfer content from their school accounts to their personal accounts. Any service that students signed up for using their Gmail accounts will no longer be accessible.
