Lafayette senior Meghana Bharadwaj knows clearly of what her future plans hold.

Bharadwaj recently took part in a nationwide competition involving nearly 40,00 high school students from all different areas. She competed in the Veterans of Foreign War’s (VFW) Voice of Democracy audio-essay competition.

“I talked about how people, especially young people, are really indifferent towards their rights and responsibilities as citizens. Also, that we could make so much more of a difference if we just voted and appreciated the blessings of our liberties,” Bharadwaj said.

The prompt for the essay was “My Vision for America”.

Bharadwaj went on to win the Missouri competition. She traveled to Washington D.C. in February for the national competition. At the very end of it all, Bharadwaj was awarded two, $2,000 scholarships in the competition.

To top it all off, that’s not the only thing she went on to win in February. Bharadwaj was the overall winner in the American Legion Oratorical Contest. The program is designed for students to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation for the Constitution.

“I’m not exactly sure where I am going on to continue my education at, but I know for sure I will be a human rights lawyer,” Bharadwaj said.
