Boys Cross Country:
After back-to-back top ten finishes, the Lancers continued their success behind senior Nikolas Malek, who finished first individually with a time of 16:01.41 and junior Lukas Groenewald, who finished second individually, with a time of 16:05.53 as the Lancers grabbed first place in the Festus Bowles Invitational. “The race was a good experience to practice, since the meet next week is a big one. It helps that we [the team] have a winner’s mentality, since it could help us have success down the road,” Malek said.

Girls Cross Country:
After finishing second and fourth in their first two meets of the season, the Lady Lancers grabbed a first place overall finish at the Festus Bowles Invitational on Sept. 18. Lafayette had two runners place in the top five, making this their best meet of the season. Junior Grace Tyson took first with a time of 18:49.60 and  junior Elissa Barnard took third with a time of 19:52.18 after placing 11th in her last meet, for  a huge improvement. Tyson has had a strong season overall and is currently ranked second on the girls cross country 2021-2022 Honor Roll. The Lady Lancers will compete in the Gans Greek Classic in Columbia on Sept. 25.

Field Hockey:
On Sept. 15, field hockey played Villa Duchesne in a close match going into overtime, before falling 3-2. On Sept. 17, varsity lost to MICDS, 5-2. Junior Lene Rossouw leads the team in offense and is fifth in the division, with eight goals and five assists. Varsity has five upcoming away games and their next home game is Oct. 8, against Kirkwood.

Football:
The football team faced off against Eureka in the Battle of 109  away on Sept. 17. The Lancers were defeated, 35-14. Sophomore Zakaylen Jones threw for one touchdown to junior Baylor Adamovsky during the first quarter, and senior Tommy Hagan ran a fumble recovery into the end zone for the Lancers’ second touchdown of the game during the third quarter. Junior Brayden Kladney scored an extra point kick for each touchdown. The team’s record sits at 1-3 with the next game on Sept. 24 against Hazelwood West.

Girls Golf:
Varsity took fourth in the the Angel Classic at the Quarry at Crystal Springs, on Sept. 15 with 343 total strokes. During the Summit Invitational at Crescent Farms, the girls tied with Webster Groves for fourth place with a total of 336 strokes. Freshman Addy Surber shot a 79 tying with her Jackson opponent, Kasie Saysanan, for the ninth lowest 18-hole score. Lafayette will face Summit one-on-one at Crescent Farms on Sept. 21.

Boys Soccer:
After a tough 3-0 loss to Marquette on Sept. 15, the Lancers bounced back with a 1-0 win over Lindbergh on Sept. 15, with the loan goal scored by senior captain Kaden Karr. “I hope my teammates notice the work rate I put into games and practices. I want to set a prime example for this year and the years to follow,” Karr said. He continues to lead the team in goals with six this season. On Sept. 18, junior Jacob Wipke led the team to victory, scoring the game-winning goal off of a penalty kick against Liberty Wentzville, making the final score 3-2. The other two goals were scored by Karr and sophomore Matheus Gasparino. The team’s record is now 5-4. “My first thought when I scored my [penalty kick] was ‘Where is Michael Glaser?’. He forced [Liberty Wentzville] to miss two of their penalty kicks,” Wipke said. Junior goalie Glaser has played a total of 382 minutes, including the game against Liberty Wentzville, and his save percentage is .756. “This win felt amazing. Every person on the team always gives 110% during games and practices. Coaches, teammates and fans cheering us on always help us fight till the end,” Wipke said. This week the team will face Ladue on Sept. 21 at 4:30 p.m.

Boys Swim:
“In terms of swim, I’ve been feeling pretty good about this season and this meet overall. It has been really fun to swim as a team again,” said senior Ethan Xu. This week the boys varsity swim had two meets. On Sept. 14, boys swim lost to Parkway West 95-90. On Sept. 16 they competed against North Point and Liberty Wentzville in a dual meet. Lafayette took the win with 170 points while Liberty Wentzville had 100 points, and North Point had 36 points.

Softball:
The Lady Lancers competed in the annual Suburban Showdown at Kirkwood Athletic Association this week. On Sept. 13, they began the tournament with a 3-2 loss against Rockwood Summit, and a 12-3 win against Webster Groves. In the win against Webster Groves, junior Emma Durfee and sophomore Alexis Gramlich led the team with two RBIs each. Due to thunder and lightning delays, the game against Marquette was pushed back to Sept. 15. The Lady Lancers lost against the District rivals, 11-3. On the same night, they beat Fort Zumwalt South, 8-6, and Lindbergh 12-7 in order to place fifth out of the twelve teams in the tournament. They played their final game of the week on Sept. 17 against Northwest. The Lady Lancers won 5-3, with senior Morgan Vehige driving in two runs, and seniors Kaley Adzick, Gina Betancourt-Diaz and Durfee each driving in one run.

Girl Tennis:
After losing to MICDS 9-0 on Sept. 13, the varsity girls tennis team was unable to play in the Sept. 14-15 Parkway Central Tournament due to rain.  But, the team got some of its first wins at the Alton Robert Logan Memorial Invitational Tournament on Sept. 18 when junior Saanvi Gudreddi and senior Grace Rigabar finished first place in their singles events. The team faces Parkway West on Sept. 20 and Westminster on Sept. 21 at home.  On Sept. 22, the girls travel to Fort Zumwalt West. Sophomore Caroline Trost said. “We need to stay positive and not think about our past points that we’ve missed. Also, we need to stay in the moment and focus on one point at a time.”

Girls Volleyball:
Varsity volleyball continued dominating their competition defeating the Lindbergh Flyers on Sept. 16 in straight sets. On Sept. 18, Lafayette was crowned winners at the St. Joseph’s Tournament of Champions, after beating St. Joseph’ s 25-13 in the first set and 25-16 in the championship match after advancing by defeating Visitation, Cor Jesu and Francis Howell. The girls volleyball team takes on St. Joseph’s at home on Sept. 28.
