Boys tennis, girls soccer remain undefeated; boys track finishes second at SLUH invitational

Weekly sports update: March 29-April 4.

Baseball: Playing in the Midwest Classic Tournament, the Lancers beat Francis Howell Central 17-3 on March 29. Eight of the 17 runs came from senior Andrew Alwell who broke the single-game school record of RBIs in a game. On March 30, in another tournament game, the Lancers beat Fort Zumwalt West 7-4. Senior Peyton Cizeck had a home run and a double, and sophomore Tripp Johns hit his second home-run in two days. On April 1, Lancer baseball lost to Wentzville Holt 15-7 in the same tournament. They went on to beat Fort Zumwalt South 6-4, then Westminster 14-7 in the 5th place game on April 3.

Boys Golf: At the SLUH Invitational on March 30, boys golf finished in 10th place. Out of 101 players, junior Trip Sanfelippo was 25th; junior Kyle Rinkenberger was 31st; senior Hayden Somach was 37th; senior Logan Lanfersieck was 73rd; and senior Jonathan Denen was 80th. On April 1, the boys lost to Marquette. 

Boys Tennis: Beginning their week with a win, boys tennis beat Eureka 9-0 on March 30 and then beat Parkway South, 8-1 on March 31. The Lancers then beat Francis Howell 9-0 in another shutout on April 1 and remained undefeated as a team.

Boys Track and Field: After competing at the SLUH Invitational on April 1, the Lancers finished in second place. Sophomore Lukas Groenewald placed second in the 1600m and junior Bross Miller placed fourth. Junior Malik Hampton finished third in the 400m. Junior Nikolas Malek placed first in the 800 and senior Eric Reed placed second. Senior Samuel Manson placed first in the long jump and triple and senior Randle Smith placed third in the long jump and triple jump. Senior Vance Lear placed first in the javelin throw and junior Landon Oelschlaeger placed third. 

Boys Volleyball: On March 30, boys volleyball lost to Parkway West, 3-2. In their next game on April 1, the Lancers rebounded and defeated Pattonville, 2-0.

Girls Lacrosse: In their first game of the week on March 30, the Lady Lancers lost to Parkway West, 7-6. With their close game on April 1 that was decided in the final minutes, the team lost to Eureka, 7-6. In their game against Marquette on April 5, the Lady Lancers fell to  the Mustangs, 15-6. The team hopes to gain their first win of the season in their next game against Rockwood Summit on April 8.

Girls Soccer: Starting their week on March 30, the Lady Lancers beat Parkway South 3-0. The next day, they beat Oakville, 6-0. During the game, junior Rylee Howard had four goals and freshman Allie Kinner had two goals. The team then went on to beat Francis Howell North 8-1. Howard led the game with a total of three goals against the Knights. Then on April 3. The high scoring games continued for Howard and the team as they beat Wentzville Holt, 6-1 with five of the six coming from Howard and the other coming from freshman Emily Derucki.

Girls Track and Field: At the Parkway-Rockwood Invitational, varsity girls track and field finished in 3rd place. Two Lady Lancers won their events with sophomore Grace Tyson won the 3200 meter race and senior Madi Slater won the 800-meter race.

Girls Water Polo: Although the girls water polo team lost to Marquette, 19-10 on March 29, senior Sophie Arceneaux scored 9 of the 10 goals in the game.

Water Polo: The Lancers went on a tw0-game losing streak, falling to Marquette, 22-8 on March 29 and the Kirkwood Pioneers, 23-3 the next day.
