Social Studies teacher Steve Klawiter will have his AP World History class take the digital exam this May. He said he looks forward to seeing how his students will perform on the exam. “Its been very clear theyre moving towards digital. Since the pandemic started, theyve been putting the pieces in place to go digital, Klawiter said. “I think that ultimately it’s going to be more beneficial because with systems like Canvas and Google Classroom, students are used to more digital activities and less handwriting activities.”

At the 2023 Winter Formal Dance, students dance in the Commons. Last year’s theme was “Disco Fever”.

Beginning Jan. 22, Lafayette will kick off their “Hitting the Slopes” Winter Formal Spirit Week. There will be dress-up days from Jan 22-26, with the dance concluding the week on Jan. 27 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Tickets will be available online through HomeTown Ticketing and will be $10 per person.

The spirit days throughout the week are:

  • Monday: Dress to Unimpress Day
  • Tuesday: Anything But a Backpack Day
  • Wednesday: S’winter Day (Summer vs. Winter)
  • Thursday: Winter Wonderland (Blues Gear)
  • Friday: Fun Flannel Friday

STUCO Dance Chair senior Kate Hall had a more basic approach when planning this week.

“We wanted something kind of simple and classic that would be fun for everyone and not go too crazy, which is why we did ‘Hitting the Slopes,’” Hall said. “We did more basic things than we would do for Homecoming because [Winter Formal] is more a of relaxed week.”

In addition to having a more laid-back week, Hall wanted the week to be accessible to all students.

“[We wanted] something that everyone can participate easily without having to go out and get stuff to wear,” she said.

Tuesday and Wednesday’s spirit days are what Hall is most looking forward to.

We brought back Anything But a Backpack Day because everyone loved that when we did it two years ago. It was a lot of fun,” Hall said. “Then we are doing Summer vs. Winter, which is always fun, because it’s a total opposite look.”

Hall is hoping for a fun week with high participation.

“[Our goal] is just for everyone to have fun and to come and support the school. A lot of the money we raise from tickets [gets donated to] charities like Toys for Tots or Adopt-A-Family and even for things like Winter Wishes. It’s really helpful for everyone to come and participate,” Hall said.
