With their undefeated season on the line, Lafayette’s varsity boys soccer team was able to knock off Vianney by beating them in the Class 4, District 2 playoff game 1-0.

The game was tight all throughout the night. Both goalies, Scott Caraway for Lafayette and TJ Reigner for Vianney, played fantastic defense and were able to block multiple shots and keep their teams alive.

Finally, both periods and overtimes, a combined 110 minutes, came to an end and Lafayette and Vianney faced off in a penalty kick shootout.

Patrick Carney, Camden Jaggie, David Marshall, Jarid Morton and Drew Moser all scored on their penalty kicks. Vianney did the same, except for Carter Cassell who kicked the ball just to the right of the goal.

Carney won the game for Lafayette by scoring the fifth and final penalty kick for the Lancers.

With this close victory, Lafayette imporves their record to 22-0-1 and will face their rival Eureka (17-6-1) on Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. at Eureka.
