Social Studies teacher Steve Klawiter will have his AP World History class take the digital exam this May. He said he looks forward to seeing how his students will perform on the exam. “Its been very clear theyre moving towards digital. Since the pandemic started, theyve been putting the pieces in place to go digital, Klawiter said. “I think that ultimately it’s going to be more beneficial because with systems like Canvas and Google Classroom, students are used to more digital activities and less handwriting activities.”

Scheduling begins, students can register online

Scheduling+begins%2C+students+can+register+online

On Jan. 18, the portal on Infinite Campus opened for student registration for grades 6-12. It closes Jan. 28 at 4 p.m.

To register, students need to log onto their Infinite Campus account, click the Course Registration tab and pick their courses. Once they have finished, they must print it out and have their parents sign it.

Schedules can vary from a completely standard schedule (each class, every day for 45 minutes) to six blocked classes (classes that last 90 minutes that happen every other day) and one standard class.

Some classes can only be blocked or standard; also blocked classes must be in a pair since they only happen every other day, so students must keep track of which type of class they sign up for.

If a student decides they want to take Advanced Placement (AP) classes, or college level classes, such as AP European History and AP Psychology,  they must fill out an AP form which they need their teacher’s recommendation, their counselor’s recommendation, and their parent’s signature.

AP forms are due March 14, but the written class request and the print out from Infinite Campus are due to Language Arts teachers by Jan. 29.

There are many actions students can take if they don’t know what classes to pick, besides meeting with their counselor, asking teachers for recommendations, and talking with their parents.

“I would suggest [students] use the [Course Description Guide] and the credit check letter in order to pick classes.” Marybeth Desloge, Guidance Department Chair, said.

Using the credit check letter, students can see which credits they still need for graduation and the Course Description Guide not only has descriptions of classes, but also says what grade a student has to be in in order to take a class and any prerequisite classes they would need to take first.

Though scheduling will be tight next year with budget cuts, students can request a change to their choices up until around Spring Break if they change their mind.

After Spring Break, if there are scheduling problems, such as a student not getting any of the four alternates they listed, they should expect to be called down to the Counselor’s Office in late April or early May.

For help with registering online, students can contact [email protected] and for questions about registration and classes, they can go to the Counselor’s Office for more information.
