Currently serving as the Dean of Mathematics and Sciences at St. Charles Community College, Mara Vorachek-Warren was appointed to fill the position of Director for the Rockwood BOE May 30. She will be sworn into the position June 6.

Lafayette to welcome two new head coaches for 2024-2025 school year
For the first time since the Pandemic, a new mural was painted by the AP Art and Design underclassman. The mural was requested by science teacher Craig Wideman, and painted by art teacher Lauren Sakowski, junior Anna Matheus, and sophomore Michelle Chen.

Early on Monday morning, multiple regions of the school had air conditioning and power outages, causing some classes to move periodically for the 1st Hour final block.

As part of the Lafayette community, local youth soccer club Rockwood United SC took part in the annual Homecoming Parade. The club was created by former LHS soccer coaches, Saverio Traversa and Craig Wideman, to provide better quality soccer coaching. We want to make sure that [soccer] is taught right, because when learned correctly its the best sport in the world, Wideman said.

Protests are being held at colleges across the United States. There have been protests at Washington University in St. Louis and Columbia University, both colleges seniors from the Class of 2024 will be attending.

Senior Dillion Cronin runs after receiving the baton in the 4x800-meter relay. The 4x800 team ran a 7:59.24 and finished 2nd place. They look to compete in the State Meet next weekend.

Officially releasing on April 16, Starbucks came out with their new Spicy Lemonade Refreshers: Spicy Dragonfruit (left), Spicy Strawberry (middle) and Spicy Pineapple (right). What makes these drinks unique is the addition of the Starbucks Spicy Chili Powder Blend which gives the drinks that hint of spice combined with the fruity, tropical flavor of the lemonade. After finishing their tests in history teacher Steve Klawiters class, students can participate in an optional trivia section. While Klawiter usually doesnt offer rewards for the highest score on the trivia section, it offers a way for students to decompress after unit tests.

Freshman Emi Limon competes in the 2022 World Kickboxing and Karate Union Championship in Wales. Even though Limon has only been doing karate for three years, he won four medals at the October competition— a gold medals in Weapons with Music and Korean Forms, a silver medal in Hardstyle Forms and a bronze medal in Weapons with no Music.

Taste of West County makes return after four years

At Lafayette High School, Lauren Dean hands Caroline Trost and Megan Bilsland a sweet treat from the Sarah’s Cake Shop booth at the Taste of West County to help raise money for the Junior Class.

Following a four-year absence, Taste of West County made its return as a fundraiser for the Junior Class on March 11, 2024. Made up of 24 vendors and 435 attendees, the fundraiser collected over $7000 for the Junior Class. The money raised will be used for the senior activities for the Class of 2025.

Total of five courses to be offered during summer, two in-person
The original graduation date for the Class of 2024 was set to be May 29 at the Chaifetz Arena. However, on Aug. 3, the BOE voted to change Graduation to May 11. When Rockwood posted about the change on Facebook, many parents took to the comments to voice their concerns and support.
