To help raise test scores and experience, Lafayette Renaissance and Sylvan Learning Center will be holding a practice ACT test on Feb 15 from 12:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. The test will be $10, and and profits will benefit Renaissance.
The test will be held in Rooms 137 and 180, and will expand into more rooms if necessary. The last time the practice test was taken in the fall, 215 students participated, raising $2,150 for Renaissance.
Taking the practice ACT helped junior Daniel Christine raise her ACT score by one point.
“Taking the practice ACT teaches you little tricks that you wouldn’t think of otherwise. It’s great for learning how to better manage your time during the test,” Christine said.
The ACT is an important part of any student’s college resume. For example, the acceptance requirement for The University of Missouri requires that you have at least a score of 17 on the ACT with a 3.65 GPA, or just an ACT score of at least 24. According to The Sylvan Learning Center, taking their ACT prep course and practicing can raise scores by as much as three points.
“Students should take the practice ACT since it is an old ACT that they can use for practice to train for the real one,” Renisance event coordinator Matt Landwehr said. “They should try to do their best for the ACT, since it is becoming more and more important for getting in to college.”
Registration is due Feb. 11 to the Guidance Office, Room 123. A link to the registration form is below:
