Even though St. Louis hasn’t gotten very much snow, the seven month, $2 million West Mountain expansion by Hidden Valley ski resort, has been deemed a success.
“The season has been really good, thanks to the weather. We probably have about four to five feet of snow on the ground,” General Manager Bill Brandes said.
The expansion added 30 percent more skiable terrain, such as Route 66 Trail, which is one of Hidden Valleys longest trail at about 500 to 600 feet longer than any other trail. Also, the new four person ski lift is about 2,000 feet long; longer than any other lift at the resort.
According to the Hidden Valley website, the accommodations are to attract out-of-state visitors while improving facilities for local skiers.
Tim Boyd, CEO of Peak Resorts who owns Hidden Valley, said the long term investment decision was based not only on Hidden Valley’s commitment to the local community but also on Hidden Valley having become a regional destination for many southern states.
“The expansion adds variety to the ordinarily planHiddenValleyterrain,” Chris Travis, a ski instructor at HiddenValley, said.
With winter only half over, everyone has a chance to try out the new trails. Details about cost of entry, season passes and rentals are online at http://www.hiddenvalleyski.com/
