Social Studies teacher Steve Klawiter will have his AP World History class take the digital exam this May. He said he looks forward to seeing how his students will perform on the exam. “Its been very clear theyre moving towards digital. Since the pandemic started, theyve been putting the pieces in place to go digital, Klawiter said. “I think that ultimately it’s going to be more beneficial because with systems like Canvas and Google Classroom, students are used to more digital activities and less handwriting activities.”

Board of Education meets Thursday, Jan. 10

The next Board of Education Meeting will be held Thursday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. at Crestview Middle School.

Among other items on the agenda including proposed staff cuts for 2013-2014, the “Picture Rockwood” chairs will present the group’s final recommendations.

Picture Rockwood is a community engagement process focused on developing a plan for the future of our Rockwood schools. According to the Rockwood website, “Since September, more than 400 Rockwood community members have attended workshops to study the challenges facing the district and provide input on solutions. As a result of this input, two pictures, or scenarios that represent the potential future of Rockwood schools, have been developed.”

This particular “Picture Rockwood” presentation will be focusing on two major points. One of those being “Utilize available reserves to aid in balancing the FY14 Budget.” The committee will stress that the district needs to utilize the excess in funds it already has before making drastic cuts in the budget for next year.

The second key recommendation out of the Picture Rockwood process is a bond issue primarily focusing on maintenance, facilities, technology and student safety. All details for both key recommendations along with the many others will be discussed on the meeting.

In addition, decisions regarding the recommended cuts in staff are expected to be made at this meeting.
