On Oct. 16, 2012 Jesus Villahermosa spoke to the 9th and 12th Graders regarding drug abuse and violence related problems and how they can impact students’ decisions.
Villahermosa has been a deputy sheriff since 1981. In 1986 he started to consult and formed his own business which has recently been renamed to Crisis Reality Training. Since 1988, Villahermosa has focused on school and workplace violence.
He has taught over 400,000 professionals and students across the United States and in Canada about issues regarding gangs, youth violence, workplace violence, school safety and rape.
Throughout Villahermosa’s speech, he told several emotionally intense stories from his own experiences which lured students in, for they were real-life stories and issues that occur in everyday life.
In addition to the story telling, Villahermosa was very active with the audience. Towards the end of the presentation he called down participants to show visually how fights start and how ridiculous fights can appear to be. He demonstrated the unnecessary reasons for the fights and how they can be avoided in the future.
Villahermosa also included morals with each of his stories; he lectured students how to prevent all the tragic events that occurred in his experiences, for these events could happen to anyone any day.
Villahermosa’s humor and passion for his work and other people inspired several students and gave them knowledge of how to prevent any future violence.
