Rollin’ like Romans: Latin Club goes “toga bowling”

The classics came alive on Jan. 27 as Latin Club took to West County Lanes for the club’s Toga Bowling” event.

Fifteen students from all four levels of Latin played, with the more adventurous of the group trying on togas.

Junior Elana Sindelar was among the students opting to bowl in the classic Roman garb.

“The idea of toga bowling sounded obnoxious,” she said. “So of course I had to do it.”

Sindelar says that togas aren’t difficult to construct.

“I made my toga out of a big white sheet that I belted with a leather belt and tied tightly because I forgot safety pins,” she said.

Although Sindelar said that a good time was had by all, toga-ed or not, she was less pleased with her game.

“I bowled horribly,” she said. “I’m pretty sure it was the toga.”
