Social Studies teacher Steve Klawiter will have his AP World History class take the digital exam this May. He said he looks forward to seeing how his students will perform on the exam. “Its been very clear theyre moving towards digital. Since the pandemic started, theyve been putting the pieces in place to go digital, Klawiter said. “I think that ultimately it’s going to be more beneficial because with systems like Canvas and Google Classroom, students are used to more digital activities and less handwriting activities.”

Renaissance practices in preparation for annual Academic Pep Assembly

For the past few nights, after sports and after school activities have ended and the majority of students have gone home, Renaissance students and Academic Pep Assembly actors, participants and dancers have remained to practice for the March 15 assembly.

The assembly, which recognizes students of all levels for their outstanding academic achievement, encorporates various skits, dances, videos and other entertainment pieces in between the distribution of academic awards, culminating in the announcement of the Lafayette Teacher of the Year.

“Our main goal is to get kids hyped up for doing well in all the senses, in school, in involvement,” Renaissance Student Steering Committee sponsor Jodie Fowler said.

Fowler continued, “It’s also really good for our Renaissance students because it gives them the leadership to plan for something that is so intense and so important to our school, so our kids get the opportunity to take advantage of the leadership skills that they have.”

The assembly will also further emphasize the importance of Renaissance in student life.

Fowler said, “Then, the idea is to get the entire student body ready and excited about learning, about good grades and about Renaissance as a whole.”

This year is to utilize the theme “Primetime” and will feature skits focusing on or spoofing various primetime television shows.

“It’s very student led. There are going to be a lot of takes on current television shows that students will be familiar with and it’s a lot of original ideas. The most popular shows are going to be represented,” Fowler said.

The Renaissance Student Steering Committee and the Renaissance Staff Steering Committee write and produce the show under the direction of choir teacher Michele Rodgers and language arts teacher Jeff Landow.

However, as Fowler pointed out, “It’s very student led.”

In order to prepare for Tuesday’s assembly, the participating students will continue practicing throughout the week and during the weekend, while the Renaissance Student Steering Committee will assist the stage, light and sound set up on Sunday to prepare as well.
