Math, Culinary departments join in celebration

Most of us dread Mondays. Our alarm clock that morning is just a piercing reminder of the long school day ahead, and it seems that there is never enough caffeine to last throughout the day.

However, this Monday, March 14 is one that many students and staff are truly looking forward to. Fondly referred to as ‘Pi Day,’ the numerical date 3/14 represents the first three digits of the number Pi, 3.14.

Math teachers are very enthusiastic about this day. Plans have been made to label the lockers in the junior hallway, each with a different number of the value. Math teacher Patricia Mabie is in charge of the t-shirts, and math teacher Paul Krull seems quite thrilled to be in charge of the Pi Day Jokes.

“It’s amazing how good bad jokes sound to a mathematician,” Krull said.

However, it only gets better from there. For those who aren’t exactly ‘Math people,’ the FACS department is offering something more.

Culinary students will be making and selling miniature pies. Students can place their orders in their respective math classroom.

“When I think of pi, since I am a foods teacher, I think of pies. So Pi Day to me means something totally different,” said FACS teacher Becky Lawrence.

“We were able to team up with the math department to do a cross curricular activity and help celebrate Pi Day for them while they celebrate Pi Day for us,” she continued.

Pies will be sold for two dollars a piece, and will be delivered straight to the recipients’ math classroom. Flavors include apple, blueberry and pecan.
