At the 2023 Prom, Class of 2023 graduates Joe Marlo and Will Barry stay at the edge of the main floor to do their dancing. Because the small dance floor was the most crowded area, many students gathered around the edges with friends or in small groups.

Cage the Elephant brings packed house to the Pageant

After all the glitter fell at the Ke$sha concert on Tuesday Feb. 22, alternative rock band Cage the Elephant took the stage at the Pageant.

Even with mini blizzard-like weather outside hundreds of loyal fans showed up, filling both the downstairs pit and the balcony as well. While I only stood out in the sleet and rain mixture for about 10 minutes, other fans who arrived later had a much longer wait.

However, before the headliner started their set the Pageant audience had to endure a little known opener from Bolwing Green, KY called Sleeper Agent.

While the female leader singer caught the attention of most of the male audience, the actual talent level of the band was mediocre. With every song sound oddly parallel beat and the lead vocals drowning out the other instruments at times the set overall was not enthusiastically embraced by the audience. Personally, I felt like it was just background to accompany my wait for the band I actually wanted to see.

After about 40 minutes after the opener left the stage, Cage the Elephant graced the audience with their presence. The band chose to open with “In One Ear”, a song that is not off the latest album but their first.

With the up beat tempo of the song it wasn’t long until the moshing ensued. While I have nothing against teenage boys and even some grown men running into eachother in a confined area. However, I do mind half the audience in the pit is getting shashed against the back bar.

While it may not have been the smartest move to grab a spot in the pit, I still didn’t expect moshing throughout the entire concert. Yes, that includes slower songs as well.

But besides the pushing shoving, the actual ability and talent of the band is really impressive. The lead singer has this understated charisma that keeps the audience locked on his every move.

Did I mention he is also possibily the biggest supporter of crowd surfing ever? I counted at least four or five times where he jumped into the crowd.

But his most awe inspiring moment came when he jumped into the pit only to walk on people’s hands as if he walking on water. That moment perfectly sums up a Cage the Elephant concert.
