On Nov. 26, the LHS Jazz Band performed in their annual Circle of Concern Benefit Concert in the Theater at 7 p.m. The Genesis Jazz Project also performed following LHS’ songs. Audience members could either donate cans or pay to get in and all proceeds went towards the Circle of Concern food pantry.

The first song they played was “Hay Burner” by Sammy Nestico. Soloists included junior Sam Dimmic on alto saxophone, junior Avery Holder on trumpet and freshman Amanda Vache on piano.
Following “Hay Burner”, the jazz band performed “Summertime” by Johnny Mandel, Dubose & Dorothy Heyward, and Ira Gershwin and arranged by Dave Rivello. This song featured a solo by junior Grayson Smith on trumpet.
After “Summertime,” the jazz band plays “Bein’ Green,” arranged by Dave Barduhn. Juniors Giancarlo Fernandez, Andres Moeller, and August Nagel, sophomores Luke Dauw and Annie Kirtley, and freshman Jake Limburg all had a featured trombone solo.
LHS’ portion of the performance ended with “Cold Duck Time” by Eddie Harris and arranged by Alan Baylock. Soloists included senior Declan Phipps on guitar, senior Liam Watson on piano and sophomore Alex Kadyanov on tenor saxophone. The Genesis Jazz Project took the stage after that and played a few songs.
