With a dominant season opener win at home, over the Vikings, 45-0, the Lancers kicked off a new era under coach Curt Mueller.
Despite multiple key players graduating on both sides of the ball and long-time coach Boyd Manne retiring, Mueller and Lafayette did not seem to lose a step, scoring six unanswered touchdowns.
New starting quarterback, senior Brady Micek, found senior wide receiver Terance Bills in the endzone to open scoring for Lafayette in the first quarter, before junior running back Cody Keen rushed in for the second score of the quarter.

Following the 14-0 lead, the Parkway North offense was unable to keep up as the Lancer defense forced a shutout.
Senior defensive lineman Baron James forced a sack, while senior defensive backs Nolan Savoie and Tim Washington each recorded an interception. Washington also caught a touchdown pass late in the game from Micek.

On offense, Bills and Micek proved to be a deadly duo, as Bills had a receiving and rushing touchdown.
“Everything just went right, with the rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown. Everything was just clicking,” Bills said. “My quarterback got me there; the bond we have is unbreakable. We have been playing with each other for four years straight; our chemistry is nice.
Mueller credited the team’s mindset as the key to their success.
“My coaching style is pretty simple. We are a family, and we all play for each other,” Mueller said. “Our big goal tonight was to execute, and that’s what we did.”
