Berry named St. Louis Athletic Director of the Year
April 15, 2015
This past weekend, Steve Berry was announced as the 2015 Missouri Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (MIAAA) St. Louis Athletic Director of the Year in Rockwood.
“I feel like it is very much not an individual award, but it is recognition of the program overall and that goes from the student athletes to our coaches and the community and the way they support what we do, and I think that’s what caused that recognition to take place far beyond anything that I personally, as an individual, could provide,” Berry said.
Although Berry strongly emphasizes the award was a group effort, his fellow co-workers fully believe he deserves the award.
“He’s one of the most dedicated activities directors I have worked with. He is all about kids and he is about making the programs the best he can to support kids so I think Lafayette is blessed to have an activities director like him and we hope he stays here for a long time,” said Associate Principal Kirti Mehrotra.
Berry was nominated along with five others in October for the award. After he won in November, he was nominated for the state award but did not receive it. Regardless, Berry is very thankful to be named St. Louis’ Activities Director of the Year.
“To be nominated and voted as a recipient of the award by my peers in the St. Louis area that I work with and respect and admire so much is a great thing,” Berry said.
