St. Louis area offers many Halloween entertainment options

With Halloween only a week away, it’s time to get into the Halloween-spirit. The St. Louis area has various events and activities occurring throughout the rest of the month of October in relation to the upcoming holiday. Here are 10 different special events that students can attend with friends and family to celebrate Halloween 2019.

Brookdale Farms 

Brookdale Farms is a 280-acre farm in Eureka, Missouri. Throughout the month of October, the farm has many Halloween-themed activities such as Red’s Corn Maze Massacre, Farmer Bob’s Haunted Hayride and haunted paintball. Red’s Corn Maze Massacre is the only haunted corn maze located in the St. Louis area as well as the largest outdoor haunted attraction. Farmer Bob’s Haunted Hayride is a tractor-drawn hayride with frightening surprises that will be apparent throughout the duration of the trail through the Haunted Valley in Eureka. For the haunted paintball event, attendees will be riding in a hay wagon whilst shooting at zombies with their paintball guns. These haunted attractions are available Fridays and Saturdays until Oct. 26. The hours are 7 p.m.-midnight. 

Freakfest- City Museum

Tickets are currently on sale for an event called “Freakfest- A Night At The (City) Museum”, which will occur Thursday, Oct. 31 at 8 p.m. in the City Museum. Featured performers for this special night include Lost Chameleon, CloZee, Marsh, Luttrell, Anjunadeep, Mersiv and Ben Bӧhmer.   

Grant’s Farm

Grant’s Farm, a historic landmark, is hosting “Halloween Nights” until Oct. 27. Halloween Nights occurs on Thursdays and Sundays from 6pm-10pm and Fridays and Saturdays 6pm-11pm. This event features moonlight rides through Deer Park (located in Grant’s Farm), a DJ in the Bauernhof courtyard (also located in Grant’s Farm) and Halloween-themed animal shows. 

Six Flags- Fright Fest

Fright Fest at Six Flags this year began on Sept. 27 and will continue to be available until Nov. 3. Fright Fest is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Friday hours are 6-11 p.m. Saturday hours are noon-midnight. And Sunday hours are noon-9 p.m.. Various haunted attractions occur throughout the day/night at Fright Fest. For instance, there are a total of 11 scare zones located throughout the park: Spider Alley, Blood Bank Lounge, Sycophants, Sinister clowns, Zombieville, the Vampire’s Lair, Project Chromo, Rottingham Graveyard, Skeleton Street, Gnawlin’s Hollow and Vengeful Trolls. Other haunted attractions include a haunted maze called Blind Fury, a circus tent called Oddball’s FunHouse, a graveyard called Night Terrors, The Slaughterhouse and Camp Killamore. Additionally, there are three different Halloween-themed shows: Spooky Mooky Mayhem, Will Rotten’s Freakout Circus and Love At First Fright. 

St. Louis Zoo

A good event for students to attend with their families and especially younger siblings is Boo at the Zoo. This event is being held at the St. Louis Zoo every night until Oct. 30 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Educational activity stations are available in the Caribbean Cove, the movie “Happy Family” will be playing in the Haunted 4D Theater, a pumpkin maze located at the south entrance and shows available at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. inside the Sea Lion Sound Arena as well as a special guest appearance by Greater St. Louis Ghostbusters. 

Lemp Brewery

The Lemp Brewery, previously a beer brewing company, was established in 1840. The brewery property consists of 27 buildings on a 13.7-acre site, located in the Marine Villa neighborhood. The Lemp Brewery, also known as the “House of Occult,” is considered the best haunted house in the St. Louis area. It is located underground and consists of mazes and a dark cavern. Visitors are welcome every weekend throughout October, with the addition of Sunday-Saturday, Oct. 27-Nov. 2. Fridays and Saturdays are open 7- 11:45 p.m. Sundays are open 7 – 9 p.m. as well as Monday-Wednesday, Oct. 20-30. Oct. 31-Nov.2 will be open from 7-9 p.m.

St. Louis Escape

St. Louis Escape are the only escape rooms in the St. Louis area that includes four different escape rooms, a pinball arcade, lounge and private party rooms. In St. Louis, it is the #1 Rated Immersive Escape Room Experience. Their hours vary on the daily; Sunday: 12:30-9:15 p.m. Monday/Tuesday: 5-8:45 p.m. Wednesday: 4:15 -9:15 p.m. Thursday: 3-9:15 p.m. Friday: noon- 11:15 p.m. Saturday: 10:45 a.m.- 11:15 p.m.

The Darkness

The Darkness, located in downtown St. Louis, has been rated as America’s best haunted house. This year will be its 26th “Year of Fear.” This year, The Darkness includes features such as two floor Darkness, Terror Visions 3D, Monster Museum, 3 minute escape room, and the Hive Zombie Experience. The available dates and hours for The Darkness are the same as Lemp Brewery and can be viewed on the website. 

Creepyworld

America’s biggest and longest haunted screampark, Creepyworld, is located in Fenton. In this one location there are 13 haunted attractions being featured, two of which are new to 2019. One of the new attractions is Zombie Axe Throwing, an expansion to the “Monster Midway” attraction, which includes zombie paintball, tomb escape room and Hollywood Drive Inn featuring horror movies. 

Science Center

The St. Louis Science Center is hosting an annual Halloween party Oct. 24-27, with the hours being 5-8 p.m. each night. Activities for this event consist of creating a Halloween project in the Makerspace and a science demonstration presentation at the Energy Stage.
