Social Studies teacher Steve Klawiter will have his AP World History class take the digital exam this May. He said he looks forward to seeing how his students will perform on the exam. “Its been very clear theyre moving towards digital. Since the pandemic started, theyve been putting the pieces in place to go digital, Klawiter said. “I think that ultimately it’s going to be more beneficial because with systems like Canvas and Google Classroom, students are used to more digital activities and less handwriting activities.”

Club Spotlight: Lafayette Ladies’ Bible Study

Club+Spotlight%3A+Lafayette+Ladies+Bible+Study

Although it is not formally recognized as a registered club at LHS, the Lafayette Ladies’ Bible Study (LLBS) is open to all women of Lafayette. The club provides girls at Lafayette an opportunity to engage in Christian literature and learn about Christian principles from peers.

LLBS, which meets Tuesday mornings at 7:15 a.m. in the room of club sponsor Jennifer Keillor, science teacher, was formed 11 weeks ago by sophomores Melissa Maddox and Katherine Trout.

Trout said she felt called to form the club this year.

“I’m a big Christian and I know a lot of Christians here at Lafayette.  I had wanted to do this since freshman year, but just orchestrating it and getting it all done would [have been] really hard to handle alone. However, this year I became good friends with Melissa Maddox.  Around the end of first semester we began to get everything together and actually started the club in February,” Trout said.

“We just felt really led to do this because we felt it would be a great encouragement for girls at Lafayette.  We could just come together and learn about the Bible,” Trout added.

Trout and Maddox spent the semester leading the members of LLBS through Crazy Love by Francis Chan.  They covered one chapter per week.

“It talks about the radical crazy love of God that he has for us, his children, and that we should be just as radical and crazy,” Trout said of the book.

According to Trout, the meetings generally also include motivational videos, bagels for the attendees, fellowship time and prayer requests.

The club, who generally see around 20 girls from all four grade levels attend weekly, has just finished Crazy Love.

“We finished the book so we’re just going to wrap things up and figure out our plans for next year, because we hope to continue it and help build a body of solid Christians,” Trout said.

Trout has said she “definitely” plans to continue with LBBS next school year.

“This year was kind of our experimental year to kind of get things together and in place, and I think we’ll be a really successful club next year as well,” Trout said.
