When most people are asked about Key Club, they think of literal keys or a computer club; but contrary to popular belief, Key Club is so much more.
Key Club is a community service club, where students are given the opportunity to do lots of service activities each month, such as the Butterfly House and Junior Achievement.
There are even certain monthly activities planned around a certain theme; sometimes the club even does trail building.
“Trail building is a lot of fun; primarily because I got to use an axe,” junior Gabby Breiten said, smiling.
Key Club is open to anyone. “It’s really welcoming; it feels great to help the community. I would really consider joining, especially if you need service hours,” Breiten said.
To join, students must pay a slight fee and they also are required to complete ten hours of community service a semester.
“Ten hours of service sound like a lot but it’s actually really easy to obtain and you’ll definitely have fun in the process,” said Breiten.
Key Club had elections at the monthly meeting in March and junior Mimi Fang is the new president.
Social Studies teacher, Jay Buck, is the current sponsor but will be retiring next year so the club is now in search for a new sponsor.
