Fantasy epic attracts student reader

Junior Luke Dunakey is currently reading A Game of Thrones, the first book in the series A Song of Fire and Ice, which consists of seven parts.

A Game of Thrones follows the lives several Lords and Ladies in their struggle to become Monarch. “The King is killed while on a hunt and the suspicion is that it was his Queen wife in a plot to get her son to be King,” Dunakey said.

While it is a part of the fantasy genre, Dunakey said he would describe it as a more “quasi-fantasy series” because of the differences between it and other fantasy series such as Harry Potter.

The book takes place in a medieval setting in a fantasy world following political intrigue, war, assassinations and more.

“It is very in depth in respect to the plot. There is a lot of story to it because it is all narrated through several different points of view so the story has several concurrent views of roughly the same plot going on at any given moment,” Dunakey said.

Even though it is only the first part of the series, A Game of Thrones is one of four parts that have been released so far. Three more are still planned to be released.
