At age eight, junior Lauren Moll discovered a talent while learning to make friendship bracelets at her church.
“I was pretty good at it, so I started experimenting with different, harder designs, and it just kind of went from there,” Moll said.
Moll’s hobby eventually developed into a small business venture.
“My little bracelet business began around Christmas time last year. I made about 15 bracelets and gave them to my good friends as a Christmas present. I had no idea that they would like them so much,” Moll said.
Afterwards, Moll received many demands for the bracelets.
“That’s when I decided to charge a little something for them,” she said.
She then posted photos of her work on Facebook, which garnered even more requests. Moll sells them to “anyone who wants one” and charges from two to five dollars.
While making bracelets is only a pass time, it is representative of Moll’s passion and interest for art.
Moll has also pursued other artistic hobbies, such as posting YouTube videos in which she draws collages for the bands Owl City and Brighten with music in the background.
“The videos are pretty much just me drawing a picture, but I sped the video up, so it’s like a speed drawing, I guess,” she said.
Moll said that she got interested in sped up drawings from seeing similar videos.
“It took me forever to figure out how to do it, but I thought the final result was pretty good,” Moll said.
Moll has also thought about taking her venture one step further and has thought about a career in the field of art.
“I want to be a graphic designer or an artist of some sort. I can’t see myself having a job other than something having to do with art,” she said.
