Lafayette to host art show Feb. 20
On Feb. 20, the AP Studio art classes will host their annual art show from 5-7 p.m. in the Library. The gallery will be on display until Friday, March 2.
The Culinary Team will be supplying food, and entertainment will be provided by Tuesday Night Rock Band and the Jam bands.
This art show comes after a recent field trip by AP Studio students, which was from the county to the inner city. Students were asked to photograph and observe differences as they drive, all with social justices in mind. Art teachers, Lauren Sakowski and Meghan O’Donnell, collaborated on the idea of a having a display show with the social justice changes in the students’ points of view.
“The project was just photographs and then reflections or drawings in their sketchbooks of their experiences,” Sakowski said. “At the show you will see a whole range of media from photographs to graphic design to drawing and painting.”
At the art show, there will be a few pieces from previous years, in which students chose to focus their work around the ideas of social justice.
While this is the first theme specific art show, AP Studio always has an end of the year gallery that shows off students portfolios. “In future years, we hope to make a field trip and corresponding show a part of AP Studio every year,” Sakowski said.
Your donation will allow our student journalists to continue their work. You may become a PATRON by making a donation at one of these levels: White/$30, Black/$50, Gold/$100. Patron names will be published on the website and once per quarter on our social media accounts.
