Holding six total Lafayette football and track records, Robby Preckel, Class of 2025 has been a cornerstone of both teams.
His 1,395 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns played a major role in helping the Lancers reach the MSHSAA Class 5 State semi-finals for football, this past season.
Playing as tight-end, Preckel’s achievements on the football field helped him get recruited as a three star recruit by Northwestern University.
Football coach Boyd Manne has been coaching Preckel for the past four years and attributes his athleticism and work ethic to
“Preckel leads by example, his work ethic is the best I’ve seen from a high school athlete and football player that I’ve coached. He’s very athletic and has a high football IQ, but the big thing is his work ethic that sets him apart,” football coach Boyd Manne said.
Preckel comes from a big family with eight siblings, and his family has played a major role in his career. His twin brother Jack Preckel, Class of 2025 also plays football and throws for the track and field team. He is committed to throw for the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
“We are always competitive with each other. If I go to the gym, then he’s gotta go to the gym because he wants to stay ahead or be even with me ,” Jack said.
Outside of competitiveness, Jack believes that having a big family has kept him and his brother accountable.
“A lot of our siblings are very honest with each other. So if we aren’t doing something right, if we’re not working, [they] let us know and push us to work harder,” Jack said.
Robby and Jack’s older brother Henry Preckel, Class of 2016, also played football in college for Missouri S&T. Robby believes that his older brother has been a big influence on his career.
“Big Inspiration to me. Dude started my career. In fourth and fifth grade, he made me do workouts, and has given me advice and workouts throughout my whole career,” Robby said.
