Year after year the Lady Lancers have great success in the District tournament, especially in the last 10 years. Their first opponent in the District tournament this year was Rockwood Summit, whom had beat Washington earlier that day to play Lafayette.

The Lady Lancers downed the Falcons 25-8, 25-16 and then went on to face rival Eureka in the final match. Lafayette girls volleyball has ended Eureka’s season four times and made it five this year after sweeping the match with a decisive 25-20, 25-12 win.

“This is a huge accomplishment for our program and our players,” Head Coach Zach Young said. “However, our main focus is this year and to beat a very good Eureka team in the District championship speaks to the hard work and improvement of our team this season. I’m very proud of this group!”

When asked how to the players and coaching staff will move on mentally with a chance to possibly win their sixth straight State title, Young said, “Our focus is one match at a time.”

The team’s next match will be against the District 2 champion and will take place on Oct. 22 and is scheduled to start around 4:30 p.m. at Lafayette and will cost $7. The four teams that Lafayette could potentially play is Cor Jesu, Lindbergh, Mehlville and Oakville.
