Drum Majors of participating bands await preliminary awards during a previous Contest.

This past Saturday, the Lafayette Regiment hosted the annual Contest of Champions.

Every year, 14 marching bands from the St. Louis area compete in 3 preliminary division rounds. The top 8  bands move onto the finals and one band is crowned winner at the end. This year, the honor was awarded to Rockwood Summit High School.

“Contest of Champions is the biggest fundraiser for the band program all year,” Lucas Meyrer, Drum Major, said.

“This years competition went really well, as usual. It’s still great to see, let alone host, a really good competition here at our own school,” he added

Funds are raised through ticket sales, concessions and registration of the various bands competing  in the event. Members of the Lafayette Regiment do not actually compete in the competition but rather help to run it. Members volunteer to help run concession, set up the grounds and assist wherever need be to keep the competition running smoothly.
