The Redefining Beautiful Club stuck post-it notes on the bathroom mirrors and stalls to improve girls’ self-esteem.
Redefining Beautiful is a club whose overall goal is to raise girls’ self-esteem through service. The idea originated from Eureka High School and a group of girls wanted to bring it to Lafayette.
Junior Rachel Radecki is the leader of the group and was involved in placing the post-it notes in the stalls and on the mirrors.
Radecki said, “We placed the post-it notes to take away the physical idea of beauty and for girls to feel good about themselves. We also wanted to recruit people for our club.”
The post-it notes include sayings such as “beauty isn’t a size” and “perfect girls aren’t real and real girls aren’t perfect.”
Several student noticed the notes and appreciated the sayings.
Senior Haley Harrison said, “It is a nice reminder to not focus on external beauty.”
The post-it notes will be placed in the bathroom every two weeks. In addition to the post-it notes, Redefining Beautiful is planning community service activities such as the Dress Drive for Cinderella’s Closet, the Style Your Sole event by TOMS and Beautiful Lengths hair donation drive by Pantene.
