Social Studies teacher Steve Klawiter will have his AP World History class take the digital exam this May. He said he looks forward to seeing how his students will perform on the exam. “Its been very clear theyre moving towards digital. Since the pandemic started, theyve been putting the pieces in place to go digital, Klawiter said. “I think that ultimately it’s going to be more beneficial because with systems like Canvas and Google Classroom, students are used to more digital activities and less handwriting activities.”

Mr. LHS is not your typical beauty pageant

When you think of a beauty pageant, you probably think of one or more of the following items: hairspray, dresses, makeup, crowns and high-heeled shoes. However, on Thursday Feb. 16, Lafayette will host a beauty pageant which may not include any of those items. It is known as Mr. LHS.

“The event is a male beauty contest. Various clubs, athletic teams, grade levels and anyone who sponsors a group can put forth a male student from that group to participate in the competition,” Assistant Principal Matt Dieckhaus said.

Mr. LHS is a fundraiser for the Junior Class, and according to Dieckhaus, it raises between $1,200 and $1,600 each year.

Junior Ali Steele will be the “host” of the event, because she is the Junior Class President.

When asked why she wanted to be a part of the event, she said, “It’s kind of an obligation type thing, but I’ll make the best of it, so I’m excited.”

According to Steele, all of the contestants first get together to perform a choreographed dance, and then from there, five finalists are chosen.

“Once they’ve narrowed it down to five guys, there will be a talent competition and a question-and-answer event,” she said.

Steele said the talents are completely random, but she can’t give any specifics besides the fact that there may be someone singing some Justin Bieber.

“It’s a male beauty pageant, but obviously it’s not taken very seriously. It’s basically a mock beauty pageant,” Steele said.

Mr. LHS will take place at 7 p.m. in the Theater and tickets are available only in advance for $6.
