Flu shots will be available at LHS on Tuesday Oct. 9, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Shots will cost $28 and a Flu Mist will also be available for $38.
The Flu vaccination stimulates the immune system by making it think that it has the virus without you actually getting sick.
The body produces antibodies which are remembered so that when you actually get the flu, your body is already prepared and protected. The shot has minor side effects including pain around the injection site.
Some people experience a low fever and mild body aches, but you cannot actually get the disease from the vaccination itself.
A discount will be given to Rockwood employees and their immediate family members for the shot. They will be $20 for the shot and $30 for the mist.
$3 from every vaccination will go back to our school as part of a fundraiser. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend everyone six months and older get the flu shot or mist, saying that it is the best way to prevent from getting the flu.
Along with getting the shot, the school nurse said, “Washing your hands often and general cleanliness” are the best ways to protect yourself from getting sick this flu season.
