At the 2023 Prom, Class of 2023 graduates Joe Marlo and Will Barry stay at the edge of the main floor to do their dancing. Because the small dance floor was the most crowded area, many students gathered around the edges with friends or in small groups.

Registration set for Aug. 8-9

As the school year quickly approaches administrators are preparing for grade-level registrations.

Freshman orientation will be held on Friday, Aug. 12 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Class of 2015 will begin its day in the Gym.

“We’ll meet for an hour in the Gym and Angie Lewis, our VICC Coordinator, will be doing a motivational speech,” Assistant Principal Mandy Lewis said.

After the speech, freshmen will meet their mentors and other freshmen in the group that they will spend the majority of the day with.  From there they will start rotations which include registration, lunch, an activities fair and a building tour.

At the end of the day, freshmen will get to walk through their schedules, spending five minutes in each class, getting a chance to meet their teachers and find their way around the school.

“A big part of freshman orientation is giving [freshmen] an upperclassman that they can talk to and bond with so that they have a familiar face, and it gives them the opportunity to meet 10 freshmen in their group and get to know them really well,” Lewis said.

She continued, “It gives them a chance to see their teachers and their classrooms and walk through their classes without feeling intimidated.”

Registration times for the rest of Lafayette is as follows:

Renaissance students will register Aug. 8 from 9 -11 a.m. They will go through the registration process, which includes school pictures for all underclassmen, receiving schedules, registering for parking passes and choosing lockers.

Seniors: Aug. 8 from 1-3 p.m.

Juniors: Aug. 9 from 9-11 a.m.

Sophomores: register Aug. 9 from 1-3 p.m.

Assistant Principal Matt Dieckhaus stressed that students and their parents should carefully go through the materials sent home this summer and be sure to bring back all necessary items. The most important document students must bring is the census form which they received. Other important documents include picture information and health forms.
