Rain dampens half day plans

Several outdoor activities planned for the Staff Development Day Sept. 14 were cancelled or postponed due to the day’s stormy skies.

The Senior Panoramic Picture, scheduled for the lower parking lot 4th Hour, was called off due to the rain.

Assistant Principal Tim Jones said the event has been rescheduled for the days before Homecoming, but that the exact date will not be released until sometime next week.

STAR’s Drunk-U-Drama, which recreates the aftermath of a crash involving an intoxicaed driver, was also called off.

“We cancelled the event because we were afraid of having 250-some odd kids out there in the pouring rain, wind and lightning,” Associate Principal Nisha Patel said. “It would’ve been chaotic.”

“We talked to Metro West Fire Department this morning about the event, and they were also concerned about the safety of having Drunk-U-Drama in the storm. Today we had the inside portion of the program with the question and answer part and just cancelled the outside,” she explained.

According to Patel, STAR will most likely try and stage Drunk-U-Drama in April, around the time of Prom.

She hopes the weather will cooperate then as well.

“April showers bring May flowers, though,” she said. “So who knows?”
