For the first time, Lafayette participated in the ProStart Culinary Competition. 27 other schools competed in the competition. The winner will represent Missouri in the National ProStart Culinary Competition.
“The level of competition was exactly what i expected; intense. However, i did not feel underprepared,” said Culinary team member Dymond Strong. “I would have liked to ranked higher. However, i am pleased with our performance for a first time. Suprisingly, I found myself appreciating the constructive criticism of the judges.”
The competition involved making a three-course meal in only an hour. They were judged and observed by culinary colleges and universities. The teams that placed first through fifth got scholarship money to pursue their future culinary career.
“Most of the other 27 schools competing are tech schools, so they have more time during their school day to practice their skills since they have committed to the program as their chosen profession after high school,” said Family and Consumer Science teacher Becky Lawrence.
Lafayette placed 19th in the competition. The Herndon Culinary Team won the competition.
