Social Studies teacher Steve Klawiter will have his AP World History class take the digital exam this May. He said he looks forward to seeing how his students will perform on the exam. “Its been very clear theyre moving towards digital. Since the pandemic started, theyve been putting the pieces in place to go digital, Klawiter said. “I think that ultimately it’s going to be more beneficial because with systems like Canvas and Google Classroom, students are used to more digital activities and less handwriting activities.”

February success continues as Lancers dominate Fox on Senior Night

With a 72-46 victory over Fox on Feb. 8, the Lancers celebrated Senior Night with their fifth straight win and improved to 12-7 on the season. They also climbed into a first-place tie atop the Suburban West standings, where Oakville also sits at 4-1.

Fittingly, senior Aareon Smith led all scorers with 19 points and is now averaging 14.4 ppg this season. Juniors Joel Pennington and Nick Messer added 15 and 11 points, respectively. It was the third straight game in which those three players finished in double figures.

Messer is now averaging 7.1 ppg after a slow start to the season.

“I’m just playing with more confidence and playing more aggressive,” Messer said, “I’m just making more shots.”

The game followed a 69-59 overtime win over Francis Howell Central on Feb. 7 and was the second of five games that the Lancers will play this week.

With only three winning teams remaining on the schedule, the Lancers have a chance to go undefeated in February for the third straight season. (Last year, their only loss in February came in Districts.)

Tonight, the team will travel to MICDS and play at 6:30 p.m. before heading to Eureka on Feb. 11 for a game. Superfans are calling for Lafayette students to participate in a Blackout for the 7 p.m. matchup with Eureka.
