Swim, dive finishes fourth at State behind Vega’s big day

The Lancers placed fourth in the Missouri Swimming Championship held at Rec-Plex on Nov. 13. Their 138 total points put them only behind Rockhurst, Glendale and Parkway Central in the final standings.

In addition, the team had several strong individual performances. Freshman Patrick Vega punctuated a fantastic rookie season by taking third in the 200 free (1:42.20) and second in the 500 free (4:36.73). He was also part of the seventh-place 200 medley relay (1:39.73) and the fourth-place 400 free relay (3:13.49).

Sophomore John Glaser added an eighth-place finish in the 50 free (4:44.71) and junior Lucas Bruder took seventh in the 100 breast (1:00.90). For the diving team, senior Coleman Swisher placed fourth with a score of 391.60.

Junior Alec Morgan also competed with the 200 medley and 400 free relay teams as well as competing in the 100 and 200 free individual races.

“[State] was great, so many people made important contributions to our success as a team. It was really cool to see everyone come together to get fourth place,” Morgan said.

The fourth place finish was a great achievement for the team, who placed 37th at last years State meet. The accomplishment already has the team excited for next season.

The team went undefeated in dual meets and took first place at Conference this season, creating high hopes for next year as this years season came to an end.

“The season was awesome from start to finish. We had an excellent work ethic and I felt that the team bonded really well. We are losing seniors this year so it will be really important for guys to step up and try to fill their spots,” Morgan said. The success of our team this year has everyone excited and determined for next years season.”
