Hibler awarded with Lancer Award at Senior Awards Night

Senior Awards Night on April 29 was an evening dedicated to recognizing the achievements of the Class of 2010.  It included recognition of students’ scholarship and college choices and the naming of special awards.

Seniors selected the Leadership, Service and Sportsmanship Awards were nominated by their fellow seniors and were selected by a panel of staff members.

This year’s Leadership Award winners were Evy Dick and Varun Mehrotra. The Service Award winners were Taylor Foley and Kameron Klimes. The Sportsmanship Award winners were Christine Hibler and Ryan Lewis.

The night’s highest honor was the announcement of the Lancer Award winner. Seniors could be nominated by a staff member and the winners were selected based on a faculty ballot. The award includes a $2,000 scholarship provided by the Lancer Parent Organization.

This year’s nominees were Taylor Foley, Chrisitine Hibler and Varun Mehrotra, but ultimately Hibler was named the winner.

A complete list of all seniors recognized at Senior Awards Night will be posted on the Lafayette website, www.rockwood.k12.mo.us/lafayette, by April 23.

Shortly after winter break, Rockwood called off four out of five school days in one week. According to Chief Communications Officer Mary LaPak, the district has three remaining snow days allotted for this school year.

Phone practices across Rockwood are relatively similar, with an baseline expectation that phones are away during instructional time. While most high schools in the district ask phones be put away completely for the entirety of class, Lafayette is the only school that allows teachers to decide the expectations in their own classroom.

The original graduation date for the Class of 2024 was set to be May 29 at the Chaifetz Arena. However, on Aug. 3, the BOE voted to change Graduation to May 11. When Rockwood posted about the change on Facebook, many parents took to the comments to voice their concerns and support.
