Social Studies teacher Steve Klawiter will have his AP World History class take the digital exam this May. He said he looks forward to seeing how his students will perform on the exam. “Its been very clear theyre moving towards digital. Since the pandemic started, theyve been putting the pieces in place to go digital, Klawiter said. “I think that ultimately it’s going to be more beneficial because with systems like Canvas and Google Classroom, students are used to more digital activities and less handwriting activities.”

Rockwood School District is currently writing a curriculum for a new womens history course, which will be offered in the 2025-2026 school year. Social studies teacher Jodie Lee will teach it at LHS.

On March 13, the Presidents Forum hosted a “Meet The Candidates” event at the Rockwood School District Administrative Annex. A student from each of Rockwood’s four high schools was chosen to ask candidates three questions and more questions were asked from anonymous PTO members.

Adolescent rates of problem gambling behaviors are double that of adult rates. Cait Huble, Director of Communications at the National Council on Problem Gambling said that this increase could be caused by online games which have blurred the lines between gaming and gambling.

What’s a Lancer?
In a routine based off of the Hindu gods Krishna and Radha, sophomore Hritika Malugu and Brentwood High School freshman Meenakshi Kadungath strike a pose. Malugus favorite routine is also based off of Krishna. My favorite dance piece is probably Asainthadum which is a classical piece about how everyone is happy when Krishna is around. It’s really dynamic and has a lot of fun steps, Malugu said.

Sophmore Halah Almuttan started her buisness, Halah’s Sweet Treats during fall this year. Other than selling a variety of self-made goods such as cinamon rolls, bunt cakes and churros, she also takes custom orders for treats like cakes, chocolate covered strawberries and cupcakes.

Boys track wins meet, baseball goes undefeated this week
Junior Conner McCown putts during the Webster Cup Invitational tournament. McCown placed 13th with a round of 77.

Eyes looking upfield, senior Emily Derucki brushes by her defender. Earlier this year, Derucki received the Bob Kehoe Future Star Award from the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame. Derucki leads the team with 4 goals so far this season.

After their win against Eureka in the Battle of 109, seniors Cam Callaham and Sam Classen jump in celebration. The Lancers beat the Wildcats 8-4.

New lacrosse coach seeks to maintain success of prior leadership, improve Lafayette standing
In front of her TV, junior Maddy Cox stares at the opening screen of the docuseries Quiet on Set. The docuseries featured Nikelodeon cast and crew members talking about abuse they went through while working on and off set.

The animated version of Avatar: The Last Airbender first aired on Nickelodeon while the live action version is available for streaming on Netflix. Both series featured the same characters with similar storylines.

At Barnes & Noble, senior Vedika Kumar participated in Blind Date with a Book. During this event, books are wrapped in paper with descriptive words that give a hint about the novel, and individuals are free to choose which one they want to buy.

After finishing their tests in history teacher Steve Klawiters class, students can participate in an optional trivia section. While Klawiter usually doesnt offer rewards for the highest score on the trivia section, it offers a way for students to decompress after unit tests.
History teacher provides de-stressing activities to students
Freshman Emi Limon competes in the 2022 World Kickboxing and Karate Union Championship in Wales. Even though Limon has only been doing karate for three years, he won four medals at the October competition— a gold medals in Weapons with Music and Korean Forms, a silver medal in Hardstyle Forms and a bronze medal in Weapons with no Music.

A student has his school photo taken before the start of the 2020-2021 school year. This years make-up photos are scheduled for Sept. 9 during AcLab. Any 9th, 10th or 11th grader who has not had a photo taken should check with their teacher at the beginning of homeroom to find out their appointment time.

Starting Sept. 14, sports that were classified as low-contact were allowed to participate in games or meets. The boys swimming and diving team is one of them, and they won their first meet against Wentzville Liberty, 138-45.

Ashley Middleton waits at her chair for the ceremony to begin. There was enough space in the parking lot for each graduate to have two parking passes for cars at the Powerplex STL. In addition, parents could tune in on a radio station and listen to the ceremony in their car, while watching on one of the several large screens which also showed a live broadcast of the ceremony.
