Lafayette track host Invitational; boys volleyball continues to improve record

Weekly Sports Update: April 19-25

Baseball: After a four-day break, the Lancers got back to it on April 21 and beat Rockwood Summit on April 21, 3-1. Senior Luc Fladda pitched five innings only allowing one hit and struck out nine. Rockwood Summit got revenge on April 22, beating the Lancers, 4-3. 

Golf: In the Webster Cup Invitational, the Lancers finished 7th out of 24 total teams. Junior Trip Sanfelippo led the team shooting 76 overall, 4 over par. Then on April 22, the Lancers beat Kirkwood by three strokes in a tight match. 

Girls Lacrosse: During a tight contest, Lafayette beat St. Joseph’s 11-10 on April 19. Senior Sophia Scheller led the team with three goals while juniors Ansley Hails and Emma Simmons and sophomore Natalie Tomljenovic all scored two  each. In a 12-6 loss, the Lady Lancer dropped one to John Burroughs 6-2 but they came back the next night beating Kirkwood 9-7 and bringing their record to 3-6 on the season. 

Boys Lacrosse: On April 21, the Lancers lost to Marquette 6-3. Junior Alex Politte scored two of the three goals and Grant Mikesell scored the other. On April 23, Eureka won the Battle of 109 as the Lancers lost, 18-3. 

Girls Soccer: On Senior Night April 19, the Lady Lancers beat the Orchard Farm Eagles, 6-1. Junior Rylee Howard continued her offensive excellence scoring three goals and racking up one assist. Then on April 21, the Lady Lancers fell to Nerinx Hall 3-1. On April 22 against the Rockwood Summit Falcons, the Lady Lancers bounced back taking the W, 3-0. Freshman Emily Derucki scored two goals on the night and the other came from Howard. 

Boys Tennis: The Lancers lost 8-1 to Marquette on April 22. 

Girls Track and Field: On April 24, the Lady Lancers and LHS as a whole hosted the Lafayette Invitational Meet where the girls placed second overall.  In the 4×800 sophomores Elissa Barnard and Grace Tyson and seniors Katie Reed and Hope Ware placed first. Keeping with the trend Tyson and Barnard took first and second in the 3200. 

Boys Track and Field: Also participating in the Lafayette Invitational, the Lancers placed in third overall. The Lancers placed first in four events:  the 4×200 relay with seniors Pernell Garner and Malik Hampton, junior Alex Wildt and freshman David Marshall. the 300 hurdles with Garner, senior Vance Lear in javelin, and senior Randle Smith in long jump. The team also placed second in four events. 

Boys Volleyball: On April 19, the Lancers traveled to Fox and beat them 2-0. The first game was 25-11 and the second was 25-10. The next day on April 20, the Lancers beat Fort Zumwalt South 3-2 carrying their record to 6-3. On April 22, the Lancers beat Northwest 3-0. The Lancers did not allow Northwest to score more than 15 points in any games. The Lancers placed third in the Parkway Central Invitational on April 24. 

Girls Water Polo: Winning 15-,9, the Lady Lancers beat the Lions Club Team on April 20. Senior Sophie Arceneaux had eight goals in the game. 

Water Polo: On April 20, the Lancers lost to CBC 26-5. On April 23 the team came out and won a close 17-15 game over the Parkway North Vikings. Junior Dylan Vorbeck scored double digits with a total of 10 goals on the night. The following night on April 24, the team lost to De Smet 7-3.
