Social Studies teacher Steve Klawiter will have his AP World History class take the digital exam this May. He said he looks forward to seeing how his students will perform on the exam. “Its been very clear theyre moving towards digital. Since the pandemic started, theyve been putting the pieces in place to go digital, Klawiter said. “I think that ultimately it’s going to be more beneficial because with systems like Canvas and Google Classroom, students are used to more digital activities and less handwriting activities.”

Lancer successes, record define Marquette Relays

The annual Marquette Relays, held Sept. 13 at Marquette High School, saw many triumphs for the boys swim and dive team.

The boys diving team, comprised of seniors Coleman Swisher and Charlie Zimmerman and junior Anthony Levy, took first place overall at the relays.

The swim team also did well, placing second overall behind Parkway Central.

Possibly the biggest success of the meet was 900-yard progressive relay team, shattered the ten-year-old meet record of 8:24.40 with a time of 8:19.

The 900 progressive consists of a three person team, with two swimmers doing a 200 freestyle and one doing a 500 freestyle. The team is made up of junior Alec Morgan and freshmen Jonny Glaser and Patrick Vega. Glaser and Morgan swam the 200 freestyles, while Vega swam the 500.

After the preliminaries on Sept. 8, all three top 900 teams (Parkway South, Marquette and Lafayette) had broken the record, but it was Parkway South that was favored to win going into finals on Sept. 9

However, it was the Lancers that came out on top.

“To break the record on the first day was really cool,” Morgan said. “When we swam the race again on Saturday and won it it was such an awesome feeling…The first thing that went through my head when I knew that we had won the race was a sense of relief because the race was close until the end, but after I knew that it was over and we had won I was ecstatic.”

After all of the success at the Marquette Relays, it is no surprise that Morgan is confident in the rest of the season.

“We have a great group of guys and a really great coaching staff,” he said. “We are really motivated to work hard and at the same time we are having a lot of fun. It should be a great season.”
