Quick Q&A with girls cross country coach
Jill Harmon
What are you most proud of Kelly for?
“I’m proud of her resilience,” Harmon said. “Her and I, when we make goals for cross country, we make them very early on. So, she came to me very early in the summer and was like, ‘I want to be all-state, and I want to run these times.’ I think she was kind of getting discouraged a little in the middle [of the season] just because she wasn’t progressing the way she wanted towards her goals, but to see all of her hard work come together at state and her to achieve being all-state that’s what I’m most proud of.”
How has Kelly contributed to the team?
“Because we are so underclassmen heavy, her and Alexis Sandberg are the root of our varsity team. They help foster our team culture. Running is a very individual sport but those two, especially Kelly, are very team oriented. She’s going to do what she needs to do for the team on her way to her own goals, but she’s way more excited if she’s achieving those and helping the team at the same time. Kelly is just as excited as a kid on JV PR-ing and running like 30 minutes for the first time than she is for herself PR-ing by 10 seconds,” Harmon said.
Since Kelly is just a junior, what do you expect the most from her next season?
“Besides accolades, I want her to come in and be able to achieve everything she wants. I want her to get the scholarship that she wants based on her times. I want her to come up to every race, and I want her to have the confidence that when she comes into every race people are like, ‘Oh no, Kelly’s here. I’m going to have to run if I want to win.’ So, going into senior year, I hope what happened this year builds her confidence for next year, and I want her to get after it at every race,” Harmon said.

[Families] actually having the opportunity to have their kids on the field with us is the most important aspect,” Ben Lundt said.](https://lancerfeed.press/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_6823-1200x800.jpg)
