As the ball crashed into the back of the net, senior defender Addison Keen turned to her teammates after scoring the winning penalty against Eureka at Lafayette High School on Tuesday, Apr. 8.
The Battle of 109 began as a tight game, with each side only scoring one goal. Keen was the goalscorer for Lafayette after heading the ball in from a corner to give the Lancers the lead. However, the Wildcats equalized, forcing double overtime. The two extra time periods were uneventful as neither team was able to break the deadlock and declare a winner.
A penalty shootout followed where sophomore goalkeeper Sidney Vogt saved three of Eureka’s penalties. Vogt’s saves and Keen’s winning penalty secured the Battle of 109 win for the Lancers, 5-3 on penalties.
