Girls wrestling dominates at tournament, boys basketball wins back-to-back games

Boys Basketball
On Jan. 18,  the boys varsity basketball team beat the Lindbergh Flyers, 59-39. In this win, junior Matt Haefner scored 14 points, leading the offense again. The Lancers won again on Jan. 21 against Parkway South with a final score of 62-43. After these games, Haefner now has a total of 243 offensive points scored and 102 defensive points scored. On Jan 24 at 4 p.m. at Parkway West, the Lancers will face Liberty High School.

Girls Basketball
On Jan. 18, the Lady Lancers went up against the Lindbergh Flyers, beating them 47-29, with senior Ana McLellan leading the team with 13 points. On Jan. 21, the team played against the Parkway South Patriots and lost 44-37. Seniors Ana MccLellan and Andrya Roach both had a strong showing during the game, scoring nine points. The Lady Lancers will face the Pattonville Pirates on Jan. 25 at 7 p.m.  The next home game for the Lady Lancers is against the Ladue Rams on Jan. 28 at 6 p.m.

Hockey
Lafayette played their only game of the week against De Smet Jan. 21. The Spartans shut out the Lancers, 10-0, and the Lancers will look to rebound against the Kirkwood Pioneers on Jan. 24 at Maryville Hockey Center at 9:30 p.m. Their current record sits at 3-12-3.

Girls Swimming and Diving
On Jan. 18, Marquette defeated the Lady Lancers, 96-90. On Jan. 20, the team came back to defeat Parkway West, 98-88. The Lady Lancers will face off next against the Eureka Wildcats on Jan. 27 at 4:30 p.m. at Lafayette.

Boys Wrestling
The Lancers beat  Seckman High School 39-38 on Jan. 19 based off a tie breaker. The Lancers also participated in the Winnetonka Invitational and finished in second place, behind champion Liberty High School. Senior Tommy Hagan and sophomore Andrew Weir both finished in first place individually. Senior Drew Doehring finished in second place individually. Next, the Lancers will take on Northwest High School in the Northwest gym on Jan. 26 at 5 p.m. The team will also compete in the Francis Howell Thrasher Memorial Tournament on Jan. 28.

Girls Wrestling
On Jan. 19, the Lancers beat Seckman 51-24 on their Senior Night. The team competed at the Washington High School Tournament. They tied for first place overall with multiple medalists. Seniors Seraphina Blackmon and Faith Cole, junior Jayla Jones and freshman Hannah Henderson placed first in their categories. “I am so lucky that I get to be on the same team with such great seniors like Faith Cole, Seraphina Blackmon and Derriona Johnson. I know that big things are coming that I have to prepare for, like Districts and State, but I’m really excited,” Henderson said. Johnson, junior McKenna Budnick and sophomore Maddie Johnson placed second in their divisions. This week, the Lancers will compete against Northwest R-1 High School in their gym at 5 p.m. on Jan. 26. The team will also be competing in the Francis Howell Thrasher Memorial Tournament on Jan. 28.
