Likely the most underrated basketball team in the area, Prestige World Wide (PWW), a basketball team in the St Albans CYC league, features a team of tremendous athletes who have strung together an undefeated season so far.
Sunday, Feb. 12 was the date of their biggest challenge of the season. Their opponent, the Caucasion Invasion, is notorious for putting up more than 80 points a game.
The game began with numerous strong layups by sophomore Mikey Kanan of Caucasion Invasion. However size was a clear factor as PWW big men, Sophomores Ryan Mueller and Tyler McMurray utilized the boards and had some key put-backs to give PWW the lead, early in the game.
The Caucasion Invasion wouldn’t go away as Sophomores Austin Platts and Joey Morando hit back to back threes to cut the lead in half.
Sophomore Tim Slocum closed out the half with exceptional defense for PWW. He recorded three steals each of which led to scores to end the half with a substantial lead for Prestige World Wide.
Sophomore Cole Dupont was satisfied with the half for PWW, while sophomore Jake Leifeld stressed the fact that they needed to crash the boards more.
Dupont got going early in the second half with a jaw-dropping steal and assist to sophomore Grey Wilson, Prestige World Wide’s leading scorer. Wilson proceeded to take over in the second half with two deep three-pointers and big time drives to the basket, finishing with a game high 22 points.
Wilson said after, “It’s all about the sock game”
The Caucasion Invasion refused to be put away. Sophomore Brendan Duarte’s tough play got him to the free throw line multiple times to get some crucial points for Caucasion Invasion.
However, Mueller got his offense going in the second half with six straight points to give Prestige World Wide a strong lead with less than five minutes to play.
Leifeld’s deep three would solidify the win for Prestige World Wide 67-51, improving their record to 5-0.
When asked about his team’s incredible success this season Slocum simply replied “You got to look good, play good, and feel good.”
