The holiday season is the best time to curl up on the couch with a mug of hot cocoa and a fuzzy blanket and put on your favorite Christmas movie. However, sometimes it can be hard to choose which one, so we made a list of the top five Christmas movies to check off your list for the season.

It’s that wonderful time of the year again and since many of us have plenty of time being stuck at home, now is the best time to sit down and enjoy some Christmas classics.

Ranking the top five movies to watch in preparation for the upcoming holidays isn’t an easy task, but we made sure to find some that will get you in that holiday spirit.

  1. A Charlie Brown Christmas

During these times the Charlie Brown classics just make you feel different. The nostalgia really takes you back to a time cooking with family and those cloudy winter nights. Although not as good as the Thanksgiving special, A Charlie Brown Christmas is a definite must-watch during the holiday season to enjoy an all-time classic.

  1. Polar Express

Definitely one of the best, if not the best, animated Christmas movies, Polar Express captures a crazy adventure to the North Pole. During the iconic train ride to get to the North Pole, we also watch the friendship of Hero Boy, Hero Girl, Billy and Know It All grow throughout the film. And let’s not forget the best scene of the whole movie: the hot chocolate.

  1. How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Jim Carrey (aka the Grinch) stars in this movie in one of his most iconic roles of all time. Carrey’s performance backed the whole movie and set it up as one of his best films. Alongside Carrey’s performance, the set and costumes only enhance the movie. Based on one of the best Dr. Seuss books, this holiday movie does not disappoint.

  1. Home Alone

This movie is just simply iconic. From all the memorable lines throughout the three-movie series to the strange and dangerous traps Kevin manages to set up, it’s simply a great overall movie. For years, Home Alone has been set up in the foundation of Christmas and at the same time is a true symbol of the 90s. The widely recognized photo of Macaulay Culkin as Kevin holding his hands up to his face in agony after using aftershave just screams Christmas classic.

  1. Elf

I mean there’s really no argument here for the best Christmas movie of all time. Without a doubt, it is the great movie, originally released in 2003, following the story of Buddy the Elf. From meeting his dad for the first time to the snowball fight to his adventure around New York, the countless funny moments in the film add up to produce a laugh during every watch. It only adds to the sentiment of the movie as it ends in a heartwarming fashion. With a combination of everything to produce holiday cheer, Elf is undoubtedly the greatest Christmas movie of all time.
